In a study published on the website for the National institute for Health, authors P.G. Barnett and R.W. Swindle attempted to determine the cost-effectiveness of inpatient drug rehab programs which we confirmed in the Hills Methodology.
Among their findings was that, “Readmission was less likely when the program was smaller or had longer intended [length of stay].” (For the purposes of this study, “readmission” is synonymous with “relapse.”)
At The Hills, a private addiction rehab facility, we have known this for many years. Our programs are small by design, which allows us to focus more precisely on the guest and on their particular set of circumstances. But at the same time, we recognize the value of group therapy and implement this approach whenever it is in the best interests of our guests.
As drug treatment facility, our highest goal is long-term recovery for our patients. As the study supports, we advocate a small program in which each guest participates in treatment as unique as their personal situation. This is a key to the goal of lasting recovery as each guest brings his or her own special circumstances to The Hills and our staff must create a plan accordingly. At The Hills, we avoid a one-size-fits-all inpatient drug rehab approach to treatment in favor of a personalized, focused approach.
More Studying, More Support for The Hills
In another reputable study, it was revealed that, “Contrary to the 30-day stint typical of inpatient rehab, people with serious substance abuse disorders commonly require care for months or even years. The short-term fix mentality partially explains why so many people go back to their old habits.”
This is another fact we’ve known for a very long time. It is why we have established our Alumni Program and also why each guest receives a customized aftercare program that helps ensure a successful recovery.
The Hills Methodology
Alumni Program centers on the belief that our guests are family. As Alumni, they are honored guests because they bring with them the shining examples of what can be accomplished when someone has both the determination to recover and the effective support needed to manage all of the challenges faced during and after the recovery process.
Our ongoing commitment to drug rehabilitation aftercare is exhibited in the weekly 12-step alumni meetings hosted at our center, and in the regular off-site communication with our alumni, and in the separate support groups we provide.
